EMBRACING DETOURS
A few weeks ago I was on my way to an appointment out of town. I planned to meet a friend for lunch after my appointment. Thankfully, my friend was thinking ahead and was aware of some construction and suggested that I take an alternate route - a route that I was not familiar with.
My initial reaction to hearing about the construction was slight irritation. (How can so many roads be under construction at the same time?!!) However, once I turned off the interstate, I found myself on a quiet, two-lane highway through the country, that ran through a few small town. I even opted for the shorter route and took a few miles of gravel. I made my appointment with time to spare!
I am a farm girl at heart and there is something about small towns and gravel roads that bring me peace - especially now that I live in the city!
Life gets busy and it is easy to get mired down in daily routines, rushing from one thing to the next. I am grateful for the detour that day and the reset that it provided.
Let’s start embracing the detours. They may take you exactly where you need to be.
